SPECIAL ACTION 1005 – THE BURNING OF CORPSES IN JAJINCI (1943/44): NEW SOURCES AS A CONTRIBUTION TO FURTHER RESEARCH

ABSTRACT/RESUME:

The que­sti­on of re­mo­ving the tra­ces of cri­mes com­mit­ted by the Na­zis at the end of World War II has be­en bro­ught up se­ve­ral ti­mes sin­ce the end of the war. However, what cha­rac­te­ri­zes this phe­no­me­non in prac­ti­cally all are­as of East and So­ut­he­ast Eu­ro­pe is the lack of so­ur­ces. In this sen­se, we are pu­blis­hing this do­cu­ment, which will ad­di­ti­o­nally help in a bet­ter re­con­struc­ti­on, but al­so in the re­view of pre­vi­o­us conc­lu­si­ons. The text is di­vi­ded in­to se­ve­ral seg­ments. The first part expla­ins the ge­ne­sis of the en­ti­re pro­cess in Eu­ro­pe, which furt­her spre­ad to the So­ut­he­ast. The se­cond part re­con­structs only the re­mo­val of corp­ses in oc­cu­pi­ed Ser­bia, whi­le the third expla­ins the is­sue of the de­ve­lop­ment of the nar­ra­ti­ve abo­ut the num­ber of tho­se kil­led af­ter the end of the war. The fo­urth part re­views the existing conc­lu­si­ons, gi­ving a sort of eva­lu­a­ti­on of what has be­en known in sci­en­ce so far. The fifth and last part of the text is the fully pu­blis­hed he­a­ring of Harry Ste­ge­mann, which is the cen­tral part of this text.
