REPUBLIKA SRPSKA KRAJINA AND THE RIGHT OF PEOPLES TO SELF-DETERMINATION

APSTRAKT/REZIME: Kolaps Berlinskog zida bio je renesansa za romantičnu teoriju o samoopredeljenju, jer je potkrepljivao tvrdnje o državnosti, posebno u istočnoj Evropi. Nigde to nije bilo jasnije ilustrovano nego u balkanskim zemljama južnih Slovena. Raspad Jugoslavije tokom ranih devedesetih ponovo je doveo velike sile da usmere svoju pažnju na najnoviju pojavu „Istočnog Pitanja“. Na taj način raspad Jugoslavije postao je laboratorija za ove velike sile da preformulišu i primene novo shvatanje prava naroda na samoopredeljenje. Deklaracije o nezavisnosti jugoslovenskih saveznih republika Slovenije i Hrvatske u junu 1991. obeležile su prve formalne korake ka secesiji ove dve republike iz Jugoslavije. Hrvatska deklaracija o nezavisnosti podstakla je rekurzivnu secesiju iz Hrvatske Republike Srpske Krajine (Krajina) u decembru 1991. godine. Uprkos održavanju referenduma u ​​definisanim teritorijalnim prostorima za uspostavljanje narodne podrške, i secesija Hrvatske iz Jugoslavije i Krajine iz Hrvatske bile su slučajevi državnosti na osnovu „romantične“ teorije samoopredeljenja. Prepoznavanje nezavisnosti Hrvatske i negiranje nezavisnosti Krajine predstavljalo je primenu romantične teorije o samoopredjeljenju hrvatskog naroda u Hrvatskoj i njenog negiranja u slučaju hrvatskih Srba. S tim u vezi, zahtev Krajine prema nezavisnosti zasnovanoj na romantičnoj teoriji samoopredeljenja mogao je uspeti samo da je imao podršku države sa vojnom snagom i uticajem da održi i, ako je potrebno, brani Krajinu sve dok joj ne bude nezavisnost formalno priznata.
